The risks of Swedish arms exports to Ukraine

The risks of Swedish arms exports to Ukraine

Sweden’s Riksdag has decided to enter with military support in Ukraine in the form of 5,000 armored shots 86.

– They can be used to stop or prevent and delay the advance of armored vehicles. But they could also be used in combat inside the cities, says Björn Fägersten, head of the Foreign Policy Institute’s European program.

Can stop 2,500 Russian combat vehicles

The weapon is easy to use and can be put in the hands of a person without any further military training. To stop a vehicle, a hit from 1-2 armor shots is required.

– This means in theory that 2,500 vehicles can be stopped by these armored shots, says Fredrik Jacobsson, the army’s weapons officer.

But in order to make a difference, these weapons, which are now promised from countries inside and outside Europe, must arrive. And here Björn Fägersten sees many and serious risks along the way.
