A little positive
There was at least some reason for optimism in the report.
Both alcohol consumption and smoking have declined. The initiatives of recent years seem to be bearing fruit and lead to fewer young people starting to smoke.
“In 2017, we got a shock when the numbers suddenly showed an increase in the number of young smokers. This triggered a heated debate, which led to an action plan from 2020, where price increases, neutral cigarette packs and smoke-free school time in the country’s high schools were, among other things, adopted and implemented, ”said Grønbæk.
Some of the measures are very new, while others have not yet entered into force, so SIF estimates that a further decline may be on the way.
