Organizers expect up to 10,000 people to take part in a demonstration in support of Ukraine in Helsinki on Saturday.
The Mothers for Peace event began at noon with a speech by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland. Olga DibrovaIn front of the Parliament House.
The peace march begins at 12.30 pm and continues along Mannerheimintie through Aleksanterinkatu to Senate Square, where it is planned to join the demonstrations of Ukrainians living in Finland. The route is secured by a police convoy.
The event will be hosted by a journalist at Senate Square Baba Lybeck. Artists such as the Tapiola Choir Tommy Lindgren, BESS, Andrei, Linda Fredriksson and Jarmo Saari appear on the steps of the Lutheran Cathedral.
The event’s Facebook page had to close after hacking, but has since reopened. Police are investigating the harassment.
