Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup will be in Dubai this week to officially sign an extradition agreement with the UAE.
In the agreement, suspected perpetrators who have committed crimes related to Denmark will be extradited and prosecuted in this country.
Among these are two high-profile cases, including 12.7 billion kroner fraud by the Danish state from 2012-2015 and hit-and-run murder of a police officer on Langebro Bro in 2019.
“We have seen examples of suspected perpetrators hiding abroad and avoiding prosecution and being held accountable for their actions here in Denmark.” said Hækkerup.
»This applies to the case of fraud with share dividend bribe and the reckless driving that cost a policeman his life in Langebro in 2019, when the suspect later fled to Dubai. As Minister of Justice, I find it completely unacceptable. “
Hækkerup said that the extradition agreement will hopefully lead to the two suspects being prosecuted in Denmark in the future.
