Russian forces are cracking down on the strategically important port city of Mariupol in southern Ukraine. The humanitarian situation is described as catastrophic for the civilians who have not been able to get out of there.
– It has for a long time been difficult to get in touch with Mariupol. Telephone lines and internet are down, says Johanna Melén, Swedish Radio’s Russia correspondent.
The theater in Mariupol had written “children” on the ground
According to information, more than a thousand people had hidden inside Mariupol’s theater when it was shelled by Russian fire and completely destroyed. On satellite images you can see the word deti, child, written on the ground, visible even from the air.
