On Tuesday, Finland asked the parties to the labor dispute to respond to the settlement proposal by April 10 at 10 a.m. The proposal only applies to UPM’s pulp business employees.
Union of Paper Workers stated that it intends to continue negotiations with other business units under the guidance of the national conciliator, considering the conciliation proposal and adding that acceptance of the proposal is conditional on finding agreements with all its members.
The union had previously demanded that negotiations be continued industry by industry.
“I am pleased that we have reached a stage in the negotiations where the conciliator has stated that a conciliation proposal is possible,” comments Juha Kรครคriรคinen, President of UPM ‘s pulp operations in Finland. “I hope an agreement is reached and we can start the factories as soon as possible.”
The Paper Association stressed yesterday that both parties must return to the negotiating table with realistic goals and a readiness to reach a speedy solution. Negotiations will continue on Wednesday.
