Finland will send more military equipment to help Ukraine in its fight against the attacking Russian forces, the Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö decided to send additional supplies to Ukraine on the basis of a government proposal.
According to the ministry, no details are provided about the quality, delivery or timing of the aid to ensure that the aid arrives safely.
Following Russia’s military offensive, Ukraine has asked for help from EU and NATO members.
The Ministry has stated that the decision to provide assistance takes into account the needs of Ukraine and Finland’s resources and that the supply of additional material will not endanger Finland’s own defense capabilities.
This is the first time the government has concealed detailed information about the military support offered to Ukraine.
In February, Finland promised to send defense equipment to Ukraine, ie 2,000 bulletproof vests, 2,000 composite helmets, 100 stretchers and equipment to two first aid stations.
The country then decided to provide additional military assistance in the form of 2,500 assault rifles, 150,000 rounds of rifles, 1,500 single-shot anti-tank weapons and 70,000 packages of combat equipment.
It also granted Estonia permission to export artillery pieces to Ukraine.
