Courtney Love – the scandal-ridden queen of rock

It is full of expectant fans in front of the stage at The Reading Festival in England on a late summer day in August 1994. The woman they are waiting for has in recent months avoided the public, while her face has been in almost every newspaper available.

When she now steps out on stage in the afternoon sun, she is wearing a short shiny gold dress with puff sleeves and sunglasses. As always, the hair is blonde and tousled, and the lipstick is red. With a green electric guitar on her stomach and a cig in her mouth, Courtney looks out over the crowd, and she immediately notices that not everyone is there to support her.

It has been just over four months since her husband, the singer in the rock band Nirvana, shot himself in the head with a shotgun. Since then, she has been accused of everything from being insensitive to continuing her own music career, to being the who had him murdered.

In the audience, she now sees a bunch of people wearing Kurt Cobain t-shirts crocheting her. The concert is the starting shot for her band Hole’s tour. Courtney drops her cigarette on the stage floor, steps on it and starts the first song. Because just like before in her life, she’s not going to let anything stop her.
