Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said he and the NATO secretary general on Monday Jens Stoltenberg discussed "principles and procedures" admission of new members of the military alliance.
Niinistö said on Facebook on Tuesday that Finland’s security must be further strengthened and that all possibilities and prospects must be explored.
"For this purpose during [Monday's] The discussion with Secretary General Stoltenberg, NATO’s principles and procedures for admitting new members were thoroughly revised," Niinistö wrote on Facebook.
The message written in Finnish was distributed at Twitter.
The President’s Office announced Niinstö’s call with Stoltenberg on Monday.
"President Niinistö and Secretary General Stoltenberg discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and exchanged views on the prospects for a ceasefire, a negotiated settlement and an end to the war. In addition, the President and the Secretary General discussed the development of relations between Finland and NATO. President Niinistö thanked Secretary General Stoltenberg for strengthening the interaction between Finland and NATO over the past month." the opinion read.
The the president pointed out with his personal Twitter account that he and Stoltenberg "discussed Russia’s prospects for ending the war against Ukraine."
