A flashmob performance of the Ukrainian national anthem stopped on the west coast of the Vaasa city shopping center on Sunday afternoon.
A total of about 60 musicians took part in the performance of the Vaasa Symphony Orchestra’s Wasa Sinfonietta and it was also supported by the Vaasa City Orchestra, the Korsholm Chamber Orchestra and several other local orchestral ensembles.
The event was organized by a group of volunteers in the region, who have also collected donations to be sent to Ukraine and helped Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war to settle in the region.
Editor of Svenska Yle Elisabeth Morneywho was also involved in organizing the event, said (in Swedish) that the purpose of the presentation was to welcome Ukrainians to the city and Finland.
An estimated 2,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Ostrobothnia since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, with Vaasa as its regional capital.
The show made some audiences tear up, and phlashmobia was followed by spontaneous cries "Slava ukraina"which means roughly translated "honor to Ukraine".
