It is called the largest child movement in world history. Sweden decides not to help Finland militarily. During a sleepless night, Sweden’s Foreign Minister Maja Sandler gets an idea: She wants to help Finnish children by evacuating them to Sweden.
More than 70,000 children will be sent to Sweden over the next six years. Children as young as three months are separated from their parents and siblings. Many lose their mother tongue, but the journey also becomes a rescue from diseases and bombings. Thousands will never return.
