-The conflict may drag on, and Ukraine is dependent on international support to resist Russian aggression. The Norwegian government has therefore decided to donate Mistral air defense to Ukraine, says Minister of Defense Bjรธrn Arild Gram.
-Mistral air defense system is an effective weapon used by the Navy. The system will be of great benefit to Ukraine, says the Minister of Defense.
The government has previously delivered 4,000 M72 light anti-tank weapons as well as helmets and flak jackets to Ukraine. Several other countries offer military-grade weapons and equipment.
The Norwegian government is now donating approximately 100 Mistral anti-aircraft missiles and a number of launching ramps. Mistral air defense system is used on navy minesweepers and corvettes. The system was planned to be phased out within a few years. Therefore, the impact of Norway’s preparedness will not be significantly reduced by delivering the system to Ukraine.
– The missile will be phased out by the Norwegian defense, but it is still a modern and effective weapon that will be of great benefit to Ukraine. Other countries have also donated similar systems, says the Minister of Defense.
The weapons have already been sent to Ukraine.
