New Delhi [India]April 27 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to three European countries – Germany, Denmark and France – from May 2-4, the Foreign Ministry (MEA) said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the MEA said that this will be the Prime Minister’s first visit abroad in 2022.
In Berlin, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor, and the two leaders will chair the sixth edition of the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).
The biennial intergovernmental conference is a unique format of dialogue in which several ministers from both sides participate. This will be the Prime Minister’s first Intergovernmental Conference with Chancellor Scholz, and also the first such government-to-government consultations with the new German Government, which took place in December 2021.
During his visit, Prime Minister and Chancellor Scholz would also talk about a business event. The Prime Minister will speak and interact with Indian society in Germany.
In 2021, India and Germany celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and have been strategic partners since 2000. This visit will be an opportunity to strengthen and intensify cooperation in a wide range of areas and for the two governments to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Modi will then travel to Copenhagen on an official visit at the invitation of Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. He will also take part in the second India-Nordic summit to host Denmark.
The bilateral part of the visit will include talks with Prime Minister Frederiksen and an audience with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. The Green Strategic Partnership was the first of its kind between India and Denmark.
According to the MEA release, the visit would provide both sides with an opportunity to review its progress, as well as explore ways to further expand our multifaceted collaboration. During the visit, the Prime Minister will participate in an India-Denmark Business Forum and also speak to members from the Indian diaspora.
During the second India-Nordic summit, the Prime Minister will also interact with other Nordic leaders – Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin.
The summit will focus on topics such as post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the evolving global security scenario and India-Nordic co-operation in the Arctic region. The first India-Nordic summit took place in 2018 in Stockholm, said MEA.
On his way home on May 4, the Prime Minister will briefly stop in Paris and meet with Emmanuel Macron, President of France. India and France are celebrating 75 years of their diplomatic relations this year and the meeting between the two leaders will set a more ambitious agenda for the strategic partnership. (ANI)
