The one-week municipal service, school and kindergarten strike will begin on May 3, unless a dispute is resolved.
Public sector unions Juko, Jyty and JHL have issued a strike warning for the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, Vantaa, Oulu, Rovaniemi, Jyväskylä, Tampere, Turku and Kuopio next week.
Trade unions seek to put pressure on employers to resolve contractual disputes, primarily over employee pay programs.
If the strike continues, it will involve a total of 81,000 workers across the country, including more than 22,000 teachers. In the Helsinki metropolitan area alone, up to 31,000 workers are expected to take industrial action.
As a result of the strike, primary schools and most kindergartens will close their doors until May 9th.
The march was scheduled to begin on April 19, but the Finnish national labor mediator asked the Minister of Labor Tuula Haatainen (SDP) to postpone it when an attempt is made to resolve the dispute.
