Ottawa [Canada]May 6 (ANI / Sputnik): Canada and Sweden are committed to strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the EU and NATO, the two countries’ foreign ministers said at the end of a meeting in Ottawa.
Sweden’s Foreign Minister Ann Linde’s first official visit to Canada on Thursday will, in the midst of Stockholm’s endeavor, join NATO, a perspective that has been warmly received in Ottawa.
“As close transatlantic partners and friends, Canada and Sweden are determined to further strengthen our transatlantic relations, as well as to strengthen EU-NATO cooperation, which is the key to our collective security and prosperity,” said Linde and Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly. on Thursday.
The response to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine has shown “the importance of transatlantic unity and cooperation,” the two diplomats said.
Joly and Linde also promised to double a press campaign against Tehran due to the unintentional shooting down of Ukrainian International Airlines flight 752 (PS752), and said that Canada and Sweden will work to ensure that the full damages are paid. Iran has announced compensation packages for the victims and the affected parties, but Western states, including Canada, have considered these measures insufficient. (ANI / Sputnik)
