ISS has been called a peace project and has in many ways been a successful international cooperation between a number of different countries. There, the astronauts have been guinea pigs for research on how humans react for a longer period of time in the weightlessness of space, to better understand how life on, for example, a lunar base would take shape – or on a trip to Mars.
The activities of the space station have been permeated by the idea of exploration for the good of humanity – not the good of different nations. Maybe that’s about to change now.
In the podcast you will hear: Ulrika Björkstén, Swedish Radio’s science commentator, Marie-Louise Kristola, Swedish Radio’s climate correspondent, and Camilla Widebeck from SR’s science editorial office.
