VG stated that it is in the interests of all the Nordic countries that Finland and Sweden survive this "gray period" as fast as possible.
In addition, the newspaper said that the Nordic countries are working to secure the defense positions of Finland and Sweden, while avoiding the escalation of unnecessary tensions with Moscow.
The VG said the statement contained a promise of political and possible military support for Finland and Sweden.
However, a source interviewed by VG said that this statement could not be considered binding "security guarantee" as it can only be provided for in Article 5 of the NATO Agreement.
