A middle-aged woman who is believed to be involved in a series of poisonings in a nursing home will remain in custody in Randers for another four weeks, it has been confirmed.
It is presumed that the police intend to charge her with attempted manslaughter after a number of residents in the same ward at Plejecenter Tirsdalen in Randers were to be admitted.
Most details of the case have been concealed, however, and no charges were revealed at yesterday’s court hearing, which was held behind closed doors.
However, it was mentioned that the woman who was arrested on 14 March has violated section 245 (1) of the Criminal Code. 1, which relates to “physical attacks of a particularly serious, brutal or dangerous nature”.
One woman was admitted three times
This is what a local man, Henrik Madsen, tells TV2 that his 80-year-old mother has been hospitalized three times this year due to “mysterious poisonings”.
Her first admission was on February 27 – and coincided with the admission of three others from the ward. Three of the four were then readmitted in the following days.
The hospital detected a benzodiazepine-type drug in the woman’s system, which cannot be easily explained.
Benzodiazepines are typically administered as a treatment for insomnia and anxiety – and in small doses for the elderly, as it can slow their mobility. It is addictive, and the withdrawal symptoms can be very dangerous – usually a plan is devised to gradually phase out their use.
The poisonings were first announced in a briefing published by Plejecenter Tirsdalen on March 12, two days before the woman’s arrest.
