ZAGREB, Croatia: Croatian lawmakers have voted to allow the introduction of the 2023 euro currency.
Legislators voted 117-13 to replace the Croatian kuna with euros on January 1, 2023.
Croatia became part of the EU in 2013, but still has one of the weakest economies in the bloc.
Right-wing parties in the Croatian parliament opposed the introduction of the euro. At the same time, it was announced that both the kuna and the euro will be accepted as currency during the first months of the changeover.
Advocates of the changeover to the euro noted that Croatia is dependent on tourism and the acceptance of the euro will make it easier to visit Croatia.
