Sweden’s Teachers will be Sweden’s third largest trade union after Unionen and Kommunal, and Sacos’ largest member union. The association is formed through a merger of Lärarnas Riksförbund and Lärarförbundet.
The Teachers’ Union, which is the larger of the two unions, has long strived to merge with the National Union of Teachers, which organizes only qualified teachers and study and career counselors.
In recent decades, the unions have been far apart in a number of school policy issues such as the communalisation of the school and grades from year 6.
