The colder-than-usual May in Finland will turn this week, especially in southern Finland, which shines in the sunshine and warm days – at least temporarily.
Ylen meteorologist Joonas Koskela said mercury could rise to 20 degrees Celsius on Monday.
"By Tuesday, much of the country should be fairly summery, the sun shining from a cloudless sky," he said.
However, night frosts are possible on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Meteorologists expect record spring heights to break on Tuesday with the arrival of warm weather that extends all the way to Lapland.
By Thursday, a new weather front coming from the west will pour rain and cool nationwide, initially in the southern parts of the country.
"Monday to Wednesday is summer, after which a wet and cold towel is thrown on us," he explained. "The daytime temperature can drop to 10 degrees."
The warm and dry conditions of recent days have increased the risk of forest fires in the south and west. Rescue workers extinguished several such fires across the country last weekend.
A Forest fire warning is currently in force in most of southern and western Finland.
