MEP Laura Huhtasaari (The Finn) has announced that he does not intend to run in the next European Parliament elections in June 2024, says the People of Satakunta.
"I want to live permanently in Finland with my mother and family," he explained.
Huhtasaari, who has become known in Finnish politics as a Eurosceptic, currently lives in the municipality of Merikarvia in Satakunta and in Brussels as a Member of the European Parliament.
Huhtasaari also said that his current term as MEP could be short.
"If I become a [Finnish] a candidate for parliament and I will be elected as a Member of Parliament, and I will quit my job here [as an MEP] already in 2023," he said according to the people of Satakunta.
Finland’s parliamentary elections are scheduled for April next year.
Huhtasaari was elected to the European Parliament in 2019 with more than 92,000 votes; the most among the candidates of Basic Finns and the third most among the candidates of all other parties.
The Council of Basic Finns elected Huhtasaari Party as the presidential candidate in 2017.
