Brende said this was “the first time we met since the COVID pandemic began … and also, unfortunately … the first time we met since the war returned to Europe.”
Brende said great progress has been made during the meeting in many areas, such as the planet and climate change, public health and global cooperation.
He said the initiatives taken “once again reminded us of how we are all connected on our planet. Global connections are branching out to other regions in the face of rising inflation, fragile food and energy systems and growing inequality.”
He said that “ahead of us, we need to build resilience to avoid future disasters, because the costs of inaction are much higher than the costs of action.”
The annual meeting officially began on Monday and will focus on four major challenges: geopolitical risks, pandemics, climate change and global economic risks.
