ISTANBUL – Turkey expects Sweden and Finland to take concrete steps and stop supporting terrorist organizations in exchange for Ankara raising objections to the two countries’ NATO membership, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.
“Both countries must take concrete steps. Our expectations are not impossible. They must stop supporting terrorism if they want to be members of an alliance like NATO,” Cavusoglu told a joint news conference with his Romanian and Polish counterparts in Istanbul. (Turkey-NATO-Sweden-Finland)

TEHRAN – The death toll from a 10-storey commercial building that collapsed in Iran’s southwestern city of Abadan rose to 24, the semi-official news agency ISNA reported on Friday.

NEW DELHI – The ongoing flooding in India’s northeastern state of Assam has affected more than half a million people and killed 30 people so far, officials said on Friday.

WASHINGTON – The US price index for private consumption spending, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation measure, rose 6.3 percent in April over the past year, the Department of Commerce reported on Friday.
This compares with a growth of 6.6 percent on an annual basis in March, according to the department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. (US-PCE inflation).
