Two young people died in a car and truck collision near Turku Airport on Friday night.
According to police, there were six people in the car at the time of the crash. The victims were a young woman born in 2005 traveling in the back seat and a young man born in 2005 sitting in the trunk of a car.
Police believe the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle on the road section of the airport that curves to the left, causing the rear of the car to collide with the front of an oncoming truck and trailer.
One of the passengers in the car reported the accident to the emergency center on Friday night just before 11pm, police added.
According to local sources, the kilometer-long stretch of road where the collision took place is popular with young motorists and moped drivers. There is also a large truck terminal along the road.
Police commissioner Kristiina Kontio The Police Department of Southwest Finland told STT on Saturday that the police had started interviewing some of the passengers involved in the accident, but the exact order of the events is still unclear.
"The picture will certainly become clearer as the research progresses. For example, we are still investigating what led to the car slipping off the road," Kontio said, adding that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash.
The driver of the car, born in 2004, is suspected of endangering road safety and two serious murders.
