5-17 According to NATO, amphibious training will be held throughout the Baltic Sea region in Baltops in June. This time the annual exercise takes place in the shadow of the war in Ukraine.
The exercise will be led by the Commander of the 6th Navy of the United States Navy. Both Finnish naval personnel and ships will participate in the exercise. The Air Force also carries out exercise-related flight operations from Finland.
According to the Defense Forces, the goal of the exercise is to develop interoperability between the United States, NATO, and Partner countries in joint air and naval operations and amphibious operations.
This yearโs maritime training is linked to the 500th anniversary of the Royal Swedish Navy. The exercise will be attended by 7,000 people, 75 aircraft and 45 vessels.
Representatives from Finland, Sweden and Turkey will meet in Brussels next week to discuss Turkey’s opposition to Finland’s and Sweden’s membership of NATO.
