In Pirkanmaa, vandals set the Pride month on fire in a park bench painted in the colors of the rainbow, says Aamulehti.
The bench, which was painted by the youth group of the municipality of Lempäälä last week, was apparently soaked in flammable liquid and then set on fire.
municipal chief of staff, Auli Nevantiecalled the case unfortunate.
"This has hit the nerve. This is also particularly unfortunate and even touching, as it was important for young people to be involved in implementing and communicating the principles of equality to others." he said.
The municipality of Lempäälä is the official sponsor of the six-day Manse Pride Week organized by the City of Tampere and Sinuiks, which promotes equal human rights regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
On June 10, a local youth and cultural services group will hold a Pride picnic for young people on the shores of Myllyranta, where there is a painted bench.
The week’s events end on Saturday, June 11 with the Pride March.
