The annual rise in consumer prices was 5.7 per cent in April.
Inflation was even higher in the euro area. According to Eurostat’s harmonized index of consumer prices, consumer prices rose by 8.1 per cent year-on-year in May, 0.7 percentage points higher than in April.
According to the index, inflation in Finland was 7.1 per cent in May.
Eurostat estimates inflation in the euro area on the basis of preliminary data from Member States on the one hand and energy price developments on the other. It will publish more detailed information on harmonized price indices from May to 17 June.
The indices do not include the cost of owner-occupied housing, games of chance, interest on consumer and other credit, fire insurance for owner-occupied housing, vehicle tax or fishing and hunting fees.
