About 1.3 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in May, Statistics Finland revealed. report. This is 17 percent more than the previous month.
About 80 percent of passengers traveled abroad, compared to 20 percent of domestic passengers. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport welcomed 87 percent of all passengers flying in May.
Although air tourism has begun to recover after a break of almost three years, the number of passengers at Finnish airports in May 2022 was just over half – 58 per cent – of the corresponding number in May 2019.
Despite statistics pointing to a slow recovery, Helsinki-Vantaa Airport warned in early June that a "historic" many passengers saw long queues, which were further prolonged by staff shortages.
