Copenhagen is not known for its low prices – especially not when it comes to food. In fact, a few years ago, a report from Deutsche Bank ranked Copenhagen as the fifth most expensive city in the world for a “basic dinner at a pub in the neighborhood”.
However, a new study from Opinionated About Dining asks to deviate. In its 2022 position for the best cheap eateries in EuropeFor example, restaurants in the Danish capital have taken four of the five best seats, as well as eight of the 20 best.
Ice cream takes the cake
Østerberg Ice Cream, which was once named one of the city’s best ice cream parlors by CPHPOST, has taken first place. Cathrine Østerberg, the owner, credits her scientific approach to ice cream making as what enables her to offer first-class ice cream at a great price.
A Parisian café came in second place on the list, and three Copenhagen bakeries finished in the top five: Lille Bageri on Refshaleøen, Hart Bageri on Frederiksberg and Bageriet Juno on Østerbro.
Other Copenhagen places on the list were Democratic Coffee (14), Bageri Petrus (16), POPL Burger (17) and Gasoline Grill (18).
