New contingency zones around Sweden’s nuclear power plant on 1 July
As of 1 July, Sweden has three new contingency zones around each nuclear power plant. An inner zone of up to 5 km an outer zone of 25 km and a planning zone of up to 100 km. Hear Jan Johansson from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority explain the significance and design of the new zones based on the worst case scenario. Erik also gets an answer as to why an accident similar to the one that happened in Chernobyl in 1986 could not happen in Sweden today.
