The Folketing has issued a warning to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Mogens Jensen, the former Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, for their decision to kill millions of mink during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mass killings of mink took place in Denmark in 2020, and the Mink Commission has said that statements in connection with the order were “grossly misleading and clearly illegal”.
Warned by their own party
The Unity List, the Radicals, the Socialist People’s Party and the Social Democrats expressed their support for the Prime Minister and at the same time condemned how quickly and badly the decision to kill the minks was made.
The warning from the Folketing has no practical consequence and is in some sense a little more than a blow to the hand. However, it is very rare for a prime minister to receive such a warning, and Prime Minister Frederiksen is far from finished dealing with the aftermath of her decision.
