The sanctions caused Finland to confiscate more than 800 Russian freight wagons

has seized 865 Russian freight cars since April, when the EU imposed sanctions on Russian coal, according to Russian documents.

The sanctions were imposed because of ’s attack on , which began at the end of February.

State-owned railway company VR Cargo confirmed that the authorities seized around 800 Russian freight cars when the sanctions came into effect.

There were a total of about 5,000 Russian wagons in Finland at that time, most of which were sent back across the border to Russia.

After the introduction of the sanctions, the authorities also froze the assets of Russian and Belarusian transport companies with around 82 million euros.
