All four of the Crown Prince Couple’s children were on the 50 most popular lists of newborn boys and girls for 2021, topped by Oscar and Alma, respectively, who were today confirmed by Statistics Denmark.
Vincent (41st with 189 new namesakes) overshadowed big brother Christian (45th with 181) in the boys’ fight, although none of them could reject ‘Father’ Frederik (30th with 248) as the top dog in the royal family.
While Josephine (19th with 306) moved big sister Isabella (24th with 259) to make it two out of two for the twins, with ‘Mother’ Mary outside the top 50.
Granted, Josephine enjoyed Josefin’s popularity, the alternate spelling of her name, but who cares (besides Statistics Denmark, of course).
Ida is applying for the top spot again
For Alma, it was a repeat of 2020, while Oscar has risen somewhere to achieve top spot from Alfred, who has dropped four places to fifth.
In 2019, Emma and William topped the charts, but today they are in seventh and third place.
But do not rule out a comeback. Ida, a national favorite in the early 2010s, rose from 17th place last year to number two.
On the girls’ rankings were the top five Alma, Ida, Clara, Ella and Olivia, and for the boys it was Oscar, Karl, William, Oliver and Alfred.
Is Holger Rune a factor?
Celebrity factor rarely makes an impression at the top of the charts, but perhaps tennis star Holger Rune can take some of the credit for his name rising from number 63 to 46 – the biggest mover in the top 100.
However, the stars from the European Championship 2021 did not manage to make the big impression, with Christian Eriksen as the only remarkable recording, albeit in a low 45th place – not even Kasper despite goalkeeper Schmeichel and top scorer Dolberg’s achievements.
New to the top 50 for the boys are Ebbe and Luca. The biggest fall was Noah, who fell from number 4 to 13, while Vilhelm, Bjรธrn and Asger have fallen completely out of the top 50.
New to the top 50 for the girls are Vera and Elina, while Sara and Alba have dropped out of the top 50.
