New Delhi [India]Aug 1 (ANI): Delhi Cabinet Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday moved the Delhi High Court (HC) challenging the provisions of seeking the Centre’s permission to travel abroad by the elected officials.
Gahlot also asked for guidance on broader guidelines for permits required of elected officials to travel abroad.
The Delhi High Court asked the petitioner to file another affidavit.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot questioned the provision after the Union government last month denied Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal permission to visit Singapore for attending a global conference.
Earlier on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he does not blame anyone for not getting permission to visit Singapore to attend the summit, his comment coming after his weekly meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
CM Arvind Kejriwal said after his visit to the Lt Governor, “No problem. He didn’t do it right. May they be happy too, we are also happy. This thing is spreading all over the world. All the dignitaries came , the former U.N. general secretary came, Sweden’s and Norway’s former prime ministers came and Millennia Trump came. The word is spreading. It would have been better if I could go and put my point before the world, he could keep the good work being done. But if that doesn’t happen, play it doesn’t matter, I don’t blame anyone for it”.
Sources said the LG has underlined the fact that the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) does not have exclusive domain over the issues corresponding to the theme of the conference and hence it will be inappropriate for a Chief Minister to participate in the same.
LG’s office believes that in connection with the WCS Smart City Workshop organized as part of the conference, it has been pointed out that the Smart City Project in Delhi is anchored by the NDMC. Apart from the above facts, a Chief Minister attending such a conference will also set a bad precedent, sources said.
Earlier on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission to attend the World Cities Summit in Singapore.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government and the Center locked horns over Kejriwal’s proposed visit to Singapore to attend the Singapore Global Conference.
The World Cities Summit is a forum for leaders and industry experts to address the challenges of a livable and sustainable city and to consider integrated urban solutions.
This year the summit will be held between 31 July and 3 August. (ANI)
