China's Zhang Rui wins 2 titles at WTT Contender Tunis

TUNIS, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China’s Zhang Rui grabbed the spotlight at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Tunis here on Saturday by winning the women’s singles and doubles titles.

Japan’s Miwa Harimoto pulled out all the stops to thwart Zhang in the singles final, coming back from 3-1 down to force a decider, but the Chinese paddler held her nerve in crucial moments and managed to win 13-11 to secure the title .

Zhang then paired with Kuai Man to beat He Zhuojia/Shi Xunyao 3-1 in the all-Chinese doubles final.

Japanese duo Yuto Kizukuri/Tomokazu Harimoto took home the men’s doubles title after edging past Zhao Zihao/Xue Fei of China 3-2.

Second-seeded Hugo Calderano of Brazil was crowned in the men’s singles after ending 18-year-old Frenchman Alexis Lebrun’s fairytale campaign in Tunis with a 4-1 victory. Lebrun had eliminated top seed Tomokazu Harimoto, China’s Xue Fei and 2019 World Cup runner-up Mattias Falck of Sweden en route to the final.

Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Miwa Harimoto clinched the mixed doubles title on Friday after a complete match victory over Chinese Taipei duo Feng Yi-Hsin/Chen Szu-Yu.
