The crime report related to the article was submitted to the Helsinki Police Department on July 11. According to YLE. After this, the officials of the police department performed a preliminary assessment of the case and concluded that a preliminary investigation is warranted.

Rydman has accused Helsingin Sanom of publishing a deeply stigmatizing article, even though the journalists had been presented with “several proofs that the narrative they constructed was inaccurate”.
According to the editor-in-chief, the newspaper had good reason to trust the information and sources it received for the article Antero Muukka.
The debate ignited by the article caused the lawmaker to give up his seat in the parliamentary committees and in the parliamentary group of the Coalition. He also resigned from the party’s group in the Helsinki City Council.
The police have not given an estimate of the possible duration of the preliminary investigation.
