For every kilometer cycled, Danish society becomes over 7 kroner richer, writes the ministry.
More bicycles means less congestion and pollution, while the population becomes healthier and has fewer sick days.
The downhill cycle lane is particularly widespread in urban areas.
In Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, the number of trips by bicycle has fallen from 33 percent in 2014 to 23 percent in 2021.
A similar trend has appeared in Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg, where the number of trips has fallen from 22 percent to 15 percent.
