India’s U-17 women’s football team takes on WSS Barcelona in the final warm-up match before the World Cup

New Delhi [India], Oct 2 (ANI): India U-17 women’s national team is all set to take on WSS Barcelona club in a friendly match on Sunday, October 2 in Spain. It will be their last warm-up match before the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup kicks off in Bhubaneswar.

The match against WSS Barcelona will be played at Soccerland stadium and will start at 19.30 IST.

“We are approaching the World Cup and we know we have to play our best. Everyone knows what she has to do. There will be no room for mistakes,” said head coach Thomas Dennerby.

“The attitude of the girls has changed a lot in terms of confidence level and they are getting sharper day by day which is surely a positive sign,” he further added.

India’s last match against Andorra U-17 was called off due to bad weather and they will be back in action after a gap of three days. Coach Dennerby thinks that not playing a game didn’t affect much as he used the time in training.

“We couldn’t play our last match due to bad weather against Andorra but it didn’t affect too much. We got time for intensive training in between. Now we’re looking forward to the match today which will be our last match on the tour,” said Dennerby.

Currently, the team which is together for about half a year is now in Spain after playing a match against Sweden where they lost 1-3 and will face WSS Barcelona Club today before returning to India on October 4, 2022.

Delighted to have the camp in Spain, Dennerby said: “I am delighted for this long camp in Spain which was much needed for the players. Our six months of preparation continued with our plan, which included strength and conditioning training alongside technical and tactical training. ” “We have just one more game before we take the pitch in India and start our World Cup campaign against the USA. The girls are ready and motivated to give it their all today,” he concluded.

These friendlies have been scheduled as part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India from October 11 to October 30.
