In several studies, it has been possible to show that there is a connection between how fast someone walks and how long that person will live. Yngve Gustafson, senior professor of geriatrics, is behind one of those studies.
– We have looked at people who are over 80 years old. Through the study we have been able to see that there is a much increased risk if you cannot walk at all and the other thing we have been able to see is that you have a much higher risk of mortality in the coming years if you walk slower than 0.5 km/h, he says.
He continues.
– It was very surprising that the boundary turned out to be so clear.
