Protests continue in Iran after 22-year-old Mahsa Jina Amini died after she was arrested by Iran’s morality police. Among those demonstrating now are schoolgirls who can be seen in photos and videos removing the mandatory headscarf and literally giving the finger in front of images of Iran’s supreme spiritual leader. From a school in Shiraz, a film is circulating which is said to show female students surrounding a member of the Basij moral police who was invited to give a talk at the school. Elsewhere, girls in school uniforms march, waving their scarves in the air.
Students demonstrate at university in Tehran
There have also been protests at several universities around the country. At Sharif University in the capital Tehran, riot police were deployed against the students. Slogans such as “woman, life, freedom” and “death to the dictator” are heard in the streets. At the same time as spectacular images and films are spread, it is difficult to assess the authenticity of the films and what is really happening inside Iran.
Hear about the young generation of women who have lost their patience and are openly showing their anger in Iran.
