Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India]October 13 (ANI): Thomas Dennerby’s India put the disappointment of defeat against USA in the opening match behind them. Thomas Dennerby’s India will now look forward to earning their first FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup point when they take on Morocco in Group A on Friday, October 14, 2022.
“We have a good chance against Morocco tomorrow. If we can show the right attitude, we can score and get some points. We have to fight it out – we have no other option left,” AIFF.com quoted Dennerby as saying. on Thursday.
“We have a team that can definitely handle the speed but football is not just about running or the number of sprints the girls make. It is also about making the right decision at the right moment. That was the biggest problem we faced against the USA in our early game – the girls have to put their hundred percent on the pitch,” Dennerby further added.
Morocco lost 1-0 to Brazil in their opening match in Group A and neither India nor Morocco are yet to save a point, India are at the bottom of the table due to a worse goal difference. A win for India would help India stay in the fight to qualify for the next round.
“Morocco is a strong team, who defend well. They are technically good with their passing game, the precision is also impressive,” the India coach said.
“We’ve seen them play against Brazil and it will be a challenge to score against them. But for us it’s either a win or out of the tournament. The girls have to play free football and they should take every chance that comes their way. If they are afraid to hold the ball, then they can lose the match immediately, says the Swedish coach.
The coach feels that the match against Morocco is a perfect opportunity for India to put up a strong display. “The fans felt that we were not good in our last game. But this time we have got a chance to handle the game in a better way and show them that India can really play a better brand of football,” he added. (ANI)
