By UNODC Global Report Regarding human trafficking, every third victim of human trafficking is a child. Human trafficking is now ranked as the third most profitable crime category in the world after drugs and weapons. Today’s recognized and award-winning organizations all work in extremely challenging environments in a sector that is under-resourced and, due to the nature of crime, often hidden.
– Due to the pandemic and the climate crisis, wars and ongoing conflicts, children today are more vulnerable than ever. Cooperation and effective solutions are therefore extremely important to protect children and secure their rights. Today, the organizations honored show that it is possible to achieve a world where no child falls victim to human trafficking and exploitation, and in doing so highlight the key role of civil society in protecting vulnerable children both in Sweden and in Europe. Jacob FlärdhSecretary General of Child Welfare10.
Child10 Award members have been working together throughout 2022 to identify best practices, develop effective and sustainable solutions to common challenges, and find a common voice for a stronger impact together. They have also received capacity building support for the development of their organization and the efficiency and sustainability of operations. All awardees will each receive an award of 100,000 kroner from HM Queen Silvia’s Care About the Children Foundation.
– This year’s winners are all experts dedicated to combating human trafficking and sexual abuse of children in Europe. It is a very impressive group that has worked together over the year and we are proud to have them as part of our network, says Therese von Blixen-Finecke, CATCH’s Director of Operations.
“All our activities are based on research – a comprehensive method. Our ReDirection study – Innovations and interventions for people who seek out and use child sexual exploitation material and engage children online has been ground-breaking and today we have over 20,000 responses in 20 different languages. We are honored and grateful to Her Majesty, Queen Silvia, for recognizing and rewarding our team’s hard work.” says Nina Vaaranen-Valkonenexecutive director, specialist, SuojellanLapsia, Protect Children ry.
