Upon the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, many observers believed that Russia would quickly prove itself militarily superior to Ukraine. But now, almost eight months later, Ukraine has continued to offer strong resistance. At the same time, Russia has recently intensified bombing and drone attacks against the capital of Ukraine and against civilian targets in several locations in Ukraine.
Therefore, Putin’s plans failed in Ukraine
Russian forces have suffered a series of setbacks – a long column of military vehicles got stuck en route to Kyiv at the start of the war, Ukraine repulsed Russian attacks and, more recently, Putin’s army has been pushed out, particularly in the Kharkiv region. Vladimir Putin recently announced the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of men, which led to protests and criticism. In addition, Putin announced that four regions of Ukraine have been formally annexed, which is condemned by the outside world as an illegal occupation. But even government-loyal commentators in Russia have now begun to question how the war is being waged and why the Russian successes are lacking. Russian President Vladimir Putin is under pressure from several quarters. Hear why Putin ended up here and how worried the rest of the world should be about a embattled Russian president.
