In March 2018, the world was reached by a cry for help in the form of a video message on YouTube.
In the video, a 32-year-old woman can be seen introducing herself as Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum, Princess of Dubai. She is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and says she is being held against her will.
The announcement comes a week after Latifa and her Finnish friend Tiina Jauhiainen were abducted by commandos, following a daring escape by land and sea.
Suddenly, newsrooms around the world are asking themselves: Who really is Latifa, and can her story really be true?
Her father is the Emir of Dubai, and one of the most powerful men in the United Arab Emirates. He is a devoted equestrian fan and has good relations with the West, not least with the British court.
But a year after Latifa’s disappearance, Dubai’s royal family is rocked by yet another scandal, when the emir’s wife, Princess Haya, absconds with their two children.
P3 ID about Princess Latifa is a story about French ex-spies, submarines, capoeira and skydiving – and much more.
Participating in the episode are Tiina Jauhiainen, Latifa’s friend and during the escape attempt, and Amal Aziz, Middle East expert.
The episode was made by Studio Olga in the fall of 2022.
