Accusations of electoral fraud and the threat to democracy
On Sunday, the second and decisive round of the presidential election in Brazil will be held, when Jair Bolsonaro will be pitted against the former president, the left-wing politician Lula da Silva. In the opinion polls it is even. But like Donald Trump in the United States, Bolsonaro has spread rumors that the opposing side will try to cheat and he has indicated that he does not intend to accept the election results if he loses. Conflict hits his supporters in the capital, Brasilia. Also hear from Sylvia Costa, editor-in-chief of the political magazine Congresso Em Foco, who has covered Bolsonaro ever since he entered politics in the 80s, and Oswaldo Eustaquilo, who is usually called Bolsonaro’s top blogger.
Fear and Bolsonaro’s new gun laws
Since Bolsonaro became president four years ago, it has become much easier to get a gun. At the gun shop Mil Armas in the suburb of Nova Iguacu outside Rio de Janeiro, Konflikt meets a group of new gun owners, who took the short course required to obtain a gun license now.
The devastation of the Amazon
Rondonia in the Amazon is a state in Brazil where Bolsonaro has very strong support. But it is also a place where the most tangible physical change of Brazil under Bolsonaro has taken off โ this is where the frontline of the deforestation of the rainforest now goes.
