There are many upheavals ahead of bringing together the parties that will have a majority in the Danish Parliament over the next four years – and quite possibly form the next government.
Coalition on the cards?
The current government, or at least the one that Mette Frederiksen dissolved on Wednesday, consisted exclusively of members of the Social Democrats, but that could easily change when the country returns to its first coalition since 2019.
As leader of the party with the most votes, Prime Minister Frederiksen has again been given the job of ‘royal investigator’, so she has the task of gathering a majority and then a government.
Hard work starts today
And the hard work starts in earnest today, November 4, when the Prime Minister will listen to all the parties’ expectations.
– The message is clear from the Danes: We need contingency planning, a strong green agenda and control over the economy, she says to TV2.
Left first in line
As the winner of the second largest number of votes, Venstre will be the first to be heard. And while there were reports that it was opposed to a government down the middle, the party is now apparently open to the concept.
The red bloc that had a majority before, from 2019 until earlier this week, is sure to have a majority again.
But with the strong possibility that this majority runs through the center of Danish politics, it is almost impossible to predict what the next government will look like.
