There were post-Halloween tricks and treats served from the western part of the United States.
California R&B standout BLXST (blast) filled his team with British warm-up acts and kicked off the European leg of the ‘Before You Go’ tour at DR Koncerthuset.
It was an enjoyable evening held back only by muted acoustics.
European heat
There was a very warm welcome to Scribz Riley. He rambled on about love and the east side of London.
But the real star of the show was BLXST’s backup singer Sheyenne, who got some of the loudest roars of the night from the amplified Copenhagen crowd.
Midnight joy slightly muted
The main course started happily at midnight. The song ‘Midnight Gang Slide’ brought California to Copenhagen with chipper BLXST strutting on stage wearing an ungodly array of diamonds.
The sound was a little off with very loud instrumentals that BLXST’s vocals couldn’t always overpower. When he came through the speakers clearly, it was an absolute treat.
Until you make it
For ‘Fake Love in LA’, BLXST sat down and turned up the intimacy.
It was a strong point in the show and the song was clearly a fan favourite. He went from strength to strength, performing poison as if he had found the anecdote.
Highly rated
When BLXST (and Sheyenne) came to ‘Overrated’, the crowd seemed like devils for his music. He then turned it up a notch with his Kendrick Lamar collaboration ‘Die Hard’, where he put his demons to rest.
To no one’s surprise, he closed with ‘Chosen’, although he also came out for an encore. I liked what I heard: especially when the sound was crisp.
