The 1975 marriage scandal – part of the audio drama venture Before-After
Føre-Efter is Sveriges Radio Drama’s audio drama venture about historical turning points in Sweden, where society has gone from a before to an after. The 1975 poisoning scandal is an audio drama in five parts inspired by the poison scandal in Teckomatorp where hundreds of buried poison barrels from BT Kemi poisoned an entire village. The series follows the single mother Astrid who lives in the working town Teckomatorp. After being notified by Systembolaget, which is threatened with closure, the relief is great when she gets a job as a lab assistant at the pesticide factory BT Kemi. Astrid is enjoying herself and eventually she also gets used to the strong smell. But when Astrid’s daughter suffers from breathing difficulties and several residents of Teckomatorp testify to rashes, migraines and coughs, Astrid begins to suspect that something is not right. Suddenly, the sleepy mining town becomes the scene of Sweden’s worst environmental scandal.
