Reporter Rasmus Tantholdt is having a hard time in Qatar. Less than a week before the WC 2022 starts, the TV2 journalist experienced a problem with security officers during a live TV broadcast.
Tanthold was interrupted by two Qatari security officers while in the air. They told him that his team was not allowed to film in the area and covered the camera lens. The correspondent showed the men the accreditations FIFA gave him and his crew, after which the guards are believed to have smashed the camera.
“You invited the whole world to come here – why can’t we film? It is a public place,” Tantholdt was heard saying in English. “You can break the camera… do you want to break it? You threaten us by smashing the camera?”
The WC organizers have apologizedd
The altercation between the TV2 journalist and the security officers has already been viewed millions of times around the world, causing outrage among many.
The World Cup organizers tried to calm the situation and the Qatar International Media Office and the Qatar Supreme Committee both apologized for this problem.
“But will it also happen to other media?” Tantholdt asked. Time will tell…
